Statement from Bishop Thomas A. Daly on the Deaths of Two Law Enforcement Officers

SPOKANE, Wash. - “It is with profound sadness that I join our community in mourning the tragic loss of two Spokane County Sheriff's deputies whose lives were taken in the line of duty.

These officers dedicated themselves to serving and protecting others. Their tragic deaths are a heartbreaking reminder of the sacrifices made by the men and women who work each day to keep our communities safe.

I extend my deepest condolences to the families of these officers and assure them of my prayers during this time of tremendous sorrow. I also offer my prayers for their fellow officers and the entire law enforcement community as they grieve the loss of two of their own.

Sacred Scripture reminds us, 'Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted' (Matthew 5:4). In the midst of such tragedy, we turn to the Lord, asking Him to bring comfort to those who grieve, healing to those who are suffering, and peace to a community shaken by this violence.

I ask the faithful of the Diocese of Spokane, and all people of goodwill, to join me in praying for the repose of these officers' souls, for the consolation of their families, and for the safety of all who continue to serve in law enforcement.

May the Lord grant these fallen officer’s eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon them."
