New Director of Catholic Education Announcement

DIOCESE OF SPOKANE ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECTOR OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION 

SPOKANE – The Diocese of Spokane and the Office of Catholic Education are pleased to announce Dr. TJ Romano, Ed.D. as the new Director of Catholic Education. TJ will take over full-time on July 1, 2024, after completing his role as principal of Assumption Catholic School (Spokane) for this academic year.  

TJ has been a Catholic educator and administrator for over 23 years, with 17 years of service in the Diocese of Spokane. He received a Bachelor of Arts in history and teaching certification from Santa Clara University, a Master's in educational leadership and principal certification from Washington State University and a Doctorate in educational leadership from Gonzaga University with an emphasis on school-parish relationships.  

He has taught at Assumption since 2007, first serving as a junior high language arts teacher and then vice principal. TJ has also led Assumption school as principal for the last decade. Throughout his administrative tenure, he has served on the Nazareth Guild Board of Directors, Diocesan Athletic Council, Gonzaga Preparatory School Board of Directors, Professional Education Standards Board for Gonzaga University and the Washington Federation of Independent Schools. Before his time in Spokane, he taught language arts, coordinated curriculum and was the Dean of Students at St. Simon Catholic School in Los Altos, California. 

Bishop Thomas A. Daly is grateful for his excellent leadership at Assumption School and his commitment to furthering the mission of the diocese through Catholic education. Bishop Daly looks forward to working with TJ in strengthening the Catholic Schools in Eastern Washington. 

The Diocese of Spokane has 17 Catholic schools, with 300 teachers and over 4,000 students from preschool to twelfth grade.
